Construction
Our speciality is the manufacture of laminated
wooden tillers. These are made to a very high standard using pine and Brazilian mahogany bonded with West epoxy resin and
finished with a minimum of eight coats of varnish.
Design
The shape,size and method of attachment to the
rudder is crucial in designing a tiller. Because getting this right is of primary importance we discuss this with you by phone
and/or email and may require sketches, tracings or photographs to clarify any finer points.
Our tillers are usually made using either five or seven plys. This will depend largely on your preference but seven or
even nine layers may be necessary if there is a sharp curve in it as in the one pictured below.
This chunky tiller was made for a Cornish workboat that is being restored.
